The Meleca family’s session at the Lagoon at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids, MI felt straight out of a storybook.

Scarlett, with her gorgeous red hair and floral printed dress, gave full on Little Mermaid vibes as she twirled beneath the weeping willows that dipped into the water. Meanwhile, little Marleigh, with her sweet hair bow and skeptical look, perfect complemented her big sister’s vibrant personality. Together, these two sisters stole the show.

Some of my favorite images from this session are of Scarlett and Marleigh together. Scarlett’s caring nature was evident in every hug, snuggle, and laugh she shared with her little sister. At one point, she even prompted a family hug — creating one of the most heartfelt candid moments of the entire session.

It’s the unscripted, sentimental interactions I love capturing as a West Michigan family photographer. They showcase not only a family’s love, but also the unique relationships that define each stage of life.

Riverside Park is one of Grand Rapids’ largest and most versatile locations for family photos. Between the water, bridges, and those dreamy weeping willows, it creates a magical atmosphere perfect for kids and families alike.

The Lagoon, in particular, offers a backdrop that feels whimsical — almost like you’ve stepped into a fairytale. While Scarlett twirled in her floral dress, I half-expected Sebastian to scurry out of the water and cue up “Under the Sea” right then and there.
